Sources & References
The Sashiko Journal is based mainly on Japanese historical sources, research books, and other materials related to sashiko, clothing, textiles, sewing, everyday life, and social history.
I use these sources to look not only at sashiko itself, but also at the wider historical context around cloth, clothing, materials, regional differences, and daily life in Japan.
Because most of the core materials are Japanese-language sources, I keep the fuller bibliography and research notes on the Japanese page. There you can find publication details and notes on how the main sources are used in my research.

References to museums, universities, public institutions, and other online sources are also listed in the individual Sashiko Journal articles where they are used.
As with the Journal itself, I try to distinguish between what a source directly records, how a researcher interprets it, and what I myself think after comparing different materials.
