I’d love to share a little about myself, the story behind canoha, and what I hope you’ll experience when you visit our workshop.
The Story of canoha
More Than a Workshop
Before founding canoha, I worked in several different fields, including IT, advertising, and e-commerce.
Although I enjoyed my career, I gradually realized that I wanted to spend my life creating things that could bring happiness to others—not simply working for a paycheck.
In 2017, that dream became canoha.
Since then, I’ve been designing handmade accessories, teaching workshops, and sharing the beauty of Japanese handcraft with people from Japan and around the world.
Why I Love Making Things
Handmade Has the Power to Make People Smile
One thing has always amazed me. Many people arrive at the workshop saying,
“I don’t think I’m very creative.”
“Can I really do this?”
But by the end of the class, they’re smiling.
“I made it.”
“That was so much fun.”
“I’d love to make another one.”
Those moments remind me that handmade crafts are about much more than creating beautiful objects.
They give us confidence, joy, and the excitement of discovering something new.
The Meaning Behind “canoha”
The name canoha is a word I created myself.
ca comes from Capability—the potential that exists within every person.
ha comes from Handcrafted.
Together, they express my belief that making things by hand helps people discover new possibilities within themselves.
This idea continues to guide everything we do.
What I Hope You’ll Take Home
When you leave canoha, I hope you take home more than just something you’ve made.
Perhaps it’s the quiet rhythm of stitching.
Perhaps it’s the confidence of creating something with your own hands.
Or perhaps it’s simply a happy memory from your journey in Japan.
If canoha can add even a small moment of happiness to your day, that is the greatest reward for me.
Meet “canoha”
Although it resembles a platypus, it isn’t one.
This character is also named canoha.
It was originally an imaginary creature that existed only in my mind until Japanese illustrator Izumi Ninomiya brought it to life especially for our shop.
Just like the people who visit canoha, this little companion continues to grow through curiosity, creativity, and trying new things.
I hope you’ll say hello when you visit.
